Apply to be our 2022 Scholarship Recipient

The Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation would like to invite all active high school aged 4-H and FFA participants to apply for this year’s Heritage Foundation Scholarship and the chance to raise the 2022 Heritage Animal. Heritage Foundation Selects Scholarship Winner

Karla Ahumada of Salinas High School FFA, selected as 2021 Scholarship Winner

King City, CA - The Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation named Karla Ahumada, a Senior at Salinas High School, as their 2021 Heritage Foundation Scholarship recipient.

“Karla’s passion and commitment stood out to the committee – especially as she talked about participating in the Salinas Valley Fair, 4-H and FFA,” said Maureen Harris, SVF Heritage Scholarship Chair. “Her volunteerism during our most recent local disasters showed us her commitment and dedication to our local community and we feel she will be a great representative for the Heritage Foundation.”

As the Heritage Foundation Scholarship winner, Karla receives a $2,500 scholarship, a commemorative belt buckle, and will be reimbursed for all expenses associated with raising her market hog for this year’s Fair. All proceeds from the sale of her animal will benefit the Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation and on-going projects at the Salinas Valley Fair, including a renovation and revitalization of the Expo Building.

Karla serves as an officer in both Salinas High FFA and as the FFA Monterey Bay Section Reporter. She also serves as the club Secretary for Natividad 4-H. She serves on the board of the Monterey County Fair Junior Fairboard. She is a member of the Salinas Valley Charro Group, a 10- member team that attends events showcasing the Mexican Charro heritage on horseback. “Karla’s commitment to being an example to others highlighted the values we look for in our Heritage Scholarship Winners,” said Harris. “Her commitment to growth both personally and professionally will be a great part of her success in the future and we look forward to being a part of that through our scholarship.”

This year’s Salinas Valley Fair Junior Livestock Auction will take place virtually on Saturday, May 8.
